Since moving from the bay area and also being disappointed when I went back to my favorite cheesesteak shop, it's been such a struggle to find a cheesesteak place... at all!

I'm not an expert, never been to Philly but I'm always looking for: a fresh hoagie roll, a good balance between meat and cheese & the ooey-gooey-ness that results in a messy meal and legit hot cherry peppers!

What's great about this no frills place is first it's location, right off the freeway exit and close to the freeway entrance! There's not really any parking spots so people just drive up as close as they want.

The owner/ front window guy is interesting and spunky. He takes your order and charges a buck for card (yes, even debit). So I'd recommend cash since everything ends with no change.

I ordered a cheesesteak with mayo, lettuce, onions and made it a bomb. I saw some reviews of complaints of not enough meat so I made sure I doubled my meat and cheese for 3.50! It was worth it as my sandwich was pretty much stuffed. It comes out super hot and fresh so don't be in too much of a rush for that first bite. I honestly think this was one of the best cheesesteak sandwiches I've ever had. It was meaty & cheesy plus creamy from the mayo & a little bit of freshness & crunch from the lettuce. I asked for some hot peppers and was given some small peppers. I had to specifically ask for the hot cherry peppers. They added the right amount of spice and acid to balance the sandwich out.

I also shared some fries with my partner. I thought $4 was expensive but it's like a bag of fresh hand cut fries. Think in n out meets Wendy's! Definitely recommend sharing, we didn't even finish them.

Meal wasn't cheap but it's so rare to find cheesesteak on the central coast. I definitely think if you're in the mood, skip Jersey Mikes (they don't even have hot cherry peppers) and head here!

I traveled to Ventura and was excited to try a place for cheese steaks and hoagies.  I know we're not in Philly, but was very disappointed.

We ordered 2 cheese steaks (1 w/onions), 1 hoagie, and 1 order of fries.

Value - The sandwiches were expensive at almost 10$ each.  I'm not sure where the money was going because there was barely any meat in any of he sandwiches. There was also a 1$ charge for my card, which I didn't expect to pay because I had cash, but the total ($32) was more then I thought it would be.

    Taste -
the rolls were pretty decent, but you end up eating a lot of bites that are just roll since the meats were scarce.

The hoagie meat was a type of chopped ham, capicola, Genoa salami and a thin sliced of prosciutto.  There was too much cheese, which would have been better if I didn't get no veggies.

The cheese steaks we're pretty nasty.  My kids love cheese steaks, and they couldn't finish theirs.  There was some sauce (maybe a bland tomato sauce from a can) or flavoring in it that was really off. The onions we're also seasoned with something that made me pick them out.

The fries were pretty good.  They were cooked well and salted well.

Overall, if the prices weren't so high, I would have been so disappointed, but I would not recommend.

Great Central Steak & Hoagie is conveniently located right off a freeway entrance - plenty of parking, order at the window, and no fuss.

I ordered the pepper, mushroom + cheesesteak ($8.08). The sandwich is hefty in size, and oh so good. The meat was finely chopped, had good flavor, and boded well with the bell peppers + mushrooms. What I really appreciated was the girthy bun that held everything together - no let down to sogginess, but it had just the right amount of chew to keep everything together.

This place exceeded my expectations. If you're on a budget, looking for a quick bite, stop by Great Central Steak & Hoagie - you won't be disappointed.
